Mahia Mahia
Physiotherapist

B.Physio (Hons), B.Psych (Hons)

Education

Mahia completed her Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) at the University of South Australia, following an earlier Bachelor of Psychology (Honours). Committed to ongoing professional development, she has undertaken additional training in Dry Needling and Trauma-Informed Care, and continues to expand her clinical knowledge while integrating her lifelong passion for movement into evidence-based physiotherapy practice.

Experience

Before pursuing physiotherapy, Mahia spent many years as a professional dancer, dance instructor, and RYT-200 certified yoga teacher, teaching movement internationally across Asia, Europe, Africa, North America and Australia. This work brought her into contact with people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, movement abilities and life experiences, strengthening her ability to communicate effectively and build meaningful therapeutic relationships. She has a particular interest in treating dancers, athletes, and individuals with postural or movement-related conditions.

Approach to Care

Mahia’s diverse background has shaped a holistic approach to rehabilitation, combining evidence-based physiotherapy with a deep understanding of movement, performance, and overall wellbeing. Her background in psychology and trauma-informed care allows her to provide compassionate, patient-centred care while recognising the important relationship between physical and mental wellbeing throughout the recovery process. She combines hands-on physiotherapy, exercise rehabilitation, and movement retraining to develop personalised treatment plans that help patients reduce pain, restore function, and confidently return to the activities they enjoy.
Personal

Outside the clinic, Mahia continues to teach African and Latin partner dancing and restorative yoga. She enjoys fostering connection through movement and helping people build confidence, resilience, and lifelong healthy movement habits.
